On hindsight, the CIO Workshop has given us a front-row seat to bear witness of how innovation and technology has improved the way Singapore works and lives over the past 30 years.

For our milestone 30th anniversary, we will be visiting Shanghai, China, the world’s second-largest economy to gain insights as to how they are cultivating new growth drivers to remain globally competitive.

As China continues its journey towards a more balanced growth, fuelled by higher domestic consumption and services, its digital capabilities and innovative foresight will determine much of its success. The widespread use of the internet has placed the country in a uniquely positive position, with over 670 million internet users and counting. During our visit, we will meet with emerging players and market leaders as they share how China is leveraging its online connectivity in innovative ways and how they are poised for exponential growth.

CIO Story

The CIO Workshop was created and piloted by Accenture USA in 1986. In 1988, Accenture Singapore brought the CIO Workshop to Singapore for the first time and jointly organized it in partnership with the Information Technology Management Association (ITMA). The ITMA was previously known as the Data Processing Management Association of Singapore.

After more than two decades, Accenture has not only established deep expertise and experience working with CIOs, but has also developed a long standing relationship with the ITMA in Singapore. The CIO Workshop has since become the longest running annual forum where CIOs share best practices and discuss prevailing IT management issues. It is the only IT forum with a 30 year heritage.

In 2000, the bar was raised when the CIO Workshop took on a dual location format. Since then, delegates have had the opportunity to travel, learn from and network with their peers from another Asian city during the second leg of the workshop. Past destinations have included Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo and, most recently, Taipei.

Today, the CIO Workshop has become the de-facto forum for CIOs of large private and public organizations in Singapore. Delegates return annually to the event to benefit from the rich content and valuable peer networking opportunities.

Information Technology Management Association (ITMA) Singapore

The Information Technology Management Association (ITMA) was established in March 28, 1998 when the Data Processing Management Association of Singapore (DPMA) renamed itself and invited the Singapore Information Management Chapter of the Singapore Computer Society (SIM) to join them in a merger of sorts between two like-minded associations. The ITMA thus becomes the sole authority to represent the IT managers in Singapore. It has inherited an impressive history created by the combination of two organizations.

About CIO Workshop

Shanghai, 17-19 May 2017

The CIO Workshop is an annual forum jointly organized by the Singapore IT Management Association (ITMA) and Accenture, a leading global professional services company, providing a broad range of services and solutions in strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations.

The CIO Workshop has long been regarded as the annual conference that brings together CIOs and top IT leaders from both the public and private sectors across the region to discuss emerging trends and the most pressing topics affecting business and technology today.

This event is highly anticipated by CIOs and senior IT management executives who return year after year to participate in content-rich sessions, intimate discussions as well as listen to notable speakers and benefit from the valuable networking opportunities.

This year, the CIO Workshop celebrates 30 years of pushing innovation to new frontiers and providing a platform for IT leaders to exchange their views and discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the technology industry in the region.

The event kicks off with a full-day conference and site visit in Singapore. To mark our 30th anniversary, we are privileged to be “In Conversation with Guest of Honour, Mr. Chan Chun Sing” as he shares his views on how technology is disrupting our workforce and the roles of the public and private sectors towards building the workforce of the future. Mr. Chan is also keen to hear from our delegates about their views on how Singapore can remain competitive in the global economy.

Delegates can also gain insights to the latest breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. Neil Jacobstein, Chair of Artificial Intelligence & Robotics at Singularity University, will explore how artificial intelligence and robotics are advancing exponentially as increasing computing power, sensors, and data allow smart machines to be mobile and increasingly intelligent. Understand how AI and robotics are expected to transform the distribution of wealth and jobs over the coming years, and what we can do to prepare proactively.

After the networking lunch, delegates will visit Changi Airport to see the latest technologies powering the world’s most awarded airport. Delegates can witness the Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) initiatives meant to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.

The event continues on with the overseas segment in Shanghai, China from 17 - 19 May 2017. CIOs from across Singapore and Shanghai will network and share their experiences about the changing business landscape through site visits.
